Royal Flying Corps ‘Maternity’ Type Jacket – Second Lieutenant I.L. Kight

Khaki Green Royal Flying Corps (RFC) 'maternity' type field service jacket with RFC pilot’s badge and embroidered Second Lieutenant rank on the shoulder straps. Name tag attached to inside collar marked "I L Kight" (Ivan Louis Kight).

Ivan Kight was born in Wellington on 16 December 1895. He served in the Royal Tank Corps and was commissioned as an officer in the RFC on 23 February 1916. He served with No. 60 Squadron RFC before resigning his commission on 2 December 1916. Kight was commissioned into the fledgling New Zealand Air Force (NZAF) as a Lieutenant on 14 June 1923 and was later promoted to Captain. He was killed in a civil flying accident on 8 February 1931.
