Tin with metal fragments - Zeppelin L-31

Tin containing six metal fragments from Zeppelin L-31. Label on lid of tin inscribed with "Pieces of Zeppelin / brought down by Lieu. Tempest DSO / at Potters Bar Herts. / Oct 1st 1916". Flying from North Weald, Lieutenant Wulstan Tempest of 39 Squadron RFC destroyed L-31 on 1 October 1916. The airship was shot down in flames and there were no survivors.

Belonged to New Zealander Major Alfred de Bathe Brandon, who had also flown a patrol on that evening with 39 Squadron from Hainault Farm.
