Commemorate the horses of the 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles

Come along tomorrow (16 August 2014) to help commemorate the unveiling of a plaque to the horses and men of the 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Riflesat the Phar Lap Racecourse, Timaru at 2pm.

Members of the public are invited to wear period costume to help commemorate the 8th South Canterbury Regiment of the Mounted Rifles leaving Timaru for World War I 100 years ago. Soldiers from the 2/4 Battalion will be present as well as Air Force and Army Cadets. Guest speakers include Mayor Damon Odey, MP Jo Goodhew and William Rolleston.

The event will be held adjacent to the Phar Lap statue. Parking off SH1 available, but the entrance will be closed for the ceremony at 1.45 pm
